Sol Gabetta performs Shostakovich’s first Cello Concerto
Tonight (Thursday, November 5) Sol Gabetta joins forces with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Klaus Mäkelä to perform Shostakovich’s first cello concerto. This is her first appearance with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Conductor is the young phenomenon Klaus Mäkelä, who also leads the orchestra in Sibelius’ Seventh Symphony. It is considered by many to be his best. Perhaps because it contains the composer’s personal expression for a hitherto both stormy and harmonious life in chaotic and idyllic creative anguish. One almost never without the other.
