August Performances
In August, Sol performs concerts in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France. She begins the month with a tour alongside violinist Veronika Eberle and viola player, Antoine Tamestit. The musicians bring their programme of Beethoven’s Duet in E-flat major for Viola and Cello WoO. 32 (“Duett mit zwei obligaten Augengläsern”), and String Trio in G Major, op. 9, no. 1, and Dohnányi’s Serenade for String Trio in C Major, op. 10 interspersed with intermezzi by J.S. Bach and miniatures by György Kurtág, to various festivals including the Gstaad Festival in Saanen, Klosters Music Festival, Rheingau Festival in Ingelheim and the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades.
Sol remains in France for a concert at the Festival Ravel in Saint-Jean de Luz, with her long-standing chamber music collaborator, violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja. Highlights from their programme include Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Part I, Prelude No. 15 in G major BWV 860 and Kodály’s Duo for violin and cello op. 7, as well as works by Leclair, Widmann, Coll, Ligeti, Xenakis, C.P.E Bach and Kopatchinskaja.
To conclude the month, Sol joins pianist Francesco Piemontesi at the Schubertiade Festival in Schwarzenberg. Their performance features Mendelssohn’s Variations Concertantes in D major, Op. 17, Brahms’ Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 2 in F major, Op. 99 and Beethoven’s Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 3 in A major, Op. 69. She then performs a similar programme in Schloss Johannisberg, as part of the Rheingau Festival, with pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout, which features the same composers, but different repertoire, such as Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No.3 in A-major, Brahms’ Cello Sonata No.1 in E Minor, op.38.
Ms. Gabetta reunites with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sir Edward Gardner for a concert at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden which marks her final engagement of the summer season. The program includes Elgar’s Concerto in E-Minor, op. 85, Mendelssohn’s “Ein Sommernachtstraum” overture and Dvorak’s Symphony no.7 in D Minor, op. 70.
