July Performances

Sol’s concerts in July bring her to Switzerland, Austria and Germany. She begins her month at the Solsberg Festival, as both performer and as artistic director. Celebrating its eighteenth season, the festival opened at the end of June, and performances continue into July. She continues her collaboration with pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout and violinist Isabelle Faust (having just completed a tour with them in June) at the Solsberg Festival through the first week of July. The program features works such as Beethoven’s Variations on Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for piano and cello in F-Dur, op. 66, Ries’ Grande Sonate in g-Moll, op. 125 for cello and piano, and Schubert’s Piano Sonata in E-flat major D 568. In her final two performances of the festival, Sol forms a sextet, presenting Strauss’ Metamorphosen für Streichsextett und Kontrabass (Rekonstruktion der Urfassung für Streichsextett und Kontrabass von Rudi Leopold).

Following the Solsberg Festival, Ms. Gabetta returns to Berlin for a concert at the Staatsoper unter den Linden with the Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Edward Gardner. Maestro Gardner also leads Sol and the London Philharmonic Orchestra in two concerts as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, with performances in Lübeck and Neumünster. The repertoire for these concerts includes Elgar’s Concerto in E minor, Op. 85, and his Symphony No. 1 in A-flat major, Op. 55, as well as Thomas Adès’ Three-piece Suite from “Powder Her Face”.

Sol then returns to Switzerland for a recital with pianist Francesco Piemontesi at the Gstaad Festival in Saanen which features Mendelssohn’s Variations Concertantes in D major, Op. 17, Brahms’ Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 2 in F major, Op. 99 and Beethoven’s Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 3 in A major, Op. 69. To conclude the month, she performs at Schloss Kammer and at the Salzburger Festspiele with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja. Some of the highlights of their collaboration include Kodály’s Duo for Violin and Cello, Op.7, Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, and J.S Bach’s Fifteen Two-Part Inventions, BWV 772-786.
